Goodwill Pharma Plc.’s social responsibility in the resuscitation education program for school-age children
In Hungary, 70 people die every day from sudden cardiac arrest, i.e., circulation failure, which adds up to more than 25,000 people per year. For every minute that passes without resuscitation, the chance of survival decreases by 10%. Lay helpers are key players in the chain of survival.
In 2017, the staff of the Emergency Department in Szeged launched a resuscitation project with the aim of teaching laypeople basic life support (BLS). The program was named „Your hands can save lives too.”
In 2023, the healthcare workers of the SZTE SZAKK and the OMSZ in Szombathely aimed to set a Hungarian record by working with 7,351 students at the Pick Arena in Szeged, using 300 training mannequins. Goodwill Pharma joined this effort as a cooperating partner.
Goodwill Pharma is committed to supporting the expansion of young people’s knowledge of first aid. Statistics show that any of us could find ourselves in a situation where resuscitation is needed. This is why it is important for everyone to possess the skills necessary to help those in need in critical situations.
On October 17, 2024, the program reached another significant milestone, in which Goodwill played a major role once again. On that day, more than 11,000 students aged 10 to 18 participated in on-site training to learn basic life support techniques in Budapest’s MVM Dome, using a total of 435 training mannequins. The large-scale event aimed to promote nationwide awareness of and demand for BLS training. At the event, Goodwill Pharma Plc. donated four semi-automatic defibrillators to schools in Szeged, Szombathely, and Budapest.
„Not everyone is lucky enough to have an expert nearby who can start resuscitation. I wish that the knowledge you gain today will be successfully applied when it’s needed most!” – advised Dr. Mária Kardos to the next generation.
We encourage everyone to join us in promoting the spread of first aid knowledge. First aid is not only a skill but also a responsibility. Let’s learn together to save even more lives!
