World Kidney Day

World Kidney Day aims to raise awareness to the importance of our kidneys to overall health and to reduce the impact of kidney disease and associated health problems worldwide. Held every year on the second Thursday in March, this day’s purpose is to reveal the risk factors that can lead to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).

This year’s theme is “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere.” It is imperative to shed light on the growing burden of kidney disease as well as its implications. The campaign wishes to bring global attention on prevention and early treatment of kidney disease. Diagnosis occurs at a late stage, mainly due to the fact that the degradation of the kidney function is silent. However, if it is revealed early enough, kidney disease can be easily treated with medication and diet. Those with chronic high blood pressure, diabetes, and other conditions that can affect kidney function are therefore encouraged to get routine checks for kidney function.
